Orhionmwon is a Local Government Area of Edo State,
Nigeria. Its headquarter is in the town of Abudu.
Orhionmwon is the largest local government area in Edo
South Senatorial district. It was created during the
days of the defunct Bendel State and Uhunmwode local
government was cut out it in 1991.
it houses the largest gas deposit in Nigeria, if not
West Africa. Besides abundance of mineral resources,
there is the Urhonigbe Rubber Plantation, Oil Palm
Plantation, Factory and Sokponba Resort, among others.
It has an area of 2,382 km and a population of 206,717
at the 2006 census. The postal code of the area is 301.
Orhionmwon local government area of Edo State is
considered one of the biggest local government area
among those in Benin City.
It comprises towns and communities such as Idumodin,
Ottah, Okuor, Edummungba, Ologbo Nugu, Egbokor, Ute -
Oheze, Ugo, Urhonigbe, Igbanke, Iru egbede, Evbobanosa,
Oza, Ogan, Uson, Oloten, Obagie N Oheze, Idumiru,
Idumwebo, Numagbae, Ugokoniro, Ukpato, Igbekhue,
iguehanza, Obozogbe-niro.
The local government came about as an aftermath in the
creation of the defunct Bendel State.
The local government has rubber plantations, palm
plantation, agricultural produces, crude oil as well as
mineral resources.
The local government is dominated by Benin speaking
communities such as Ugo. Umoghun Nokhua, Oben, Ikobi and
Okogbo and surrounded by neighboring Delta, Kogi and
Ondo States.
Plantains, yams, cassava, and maize are among the many
crops that are grown in Orhionmwon LGA, which has a
thriving agricultural industry.
The Local Government Area is home to multiple markets
that draw thousands of buyers and sellers of various
commodities, contributing to the region's thriving
trading industry.
The people that live in Orhionmwon LGA also engage in
significant economic activities like as food processing,
logging, and animal breeding.

Residents
The council area has an estimated population of about three hundred and forty two thousand (206,717) inhabitants. This number is made up of predominantly Yorubas. Ibo s and Hausas have relatively large numbers followed by other ethnic tribes and nationalities.
Economic Activities
Historically the general Orhionmwon local government
council area was characterized by numerous creeks,
swamps, and even the lagoon hence, the early
inhabitants engaged mostly in fishing followed
closely by hunting. Crafts and farming, especially
of spices, fruits and vegetables were also
activities that were carried out for economic
benefit.
Over the years, rapid urbanization has caused
changes to the landscape of the Orhionmwon local
government council area and the inhabitants of the
area have taken to modern economic activities such
as Farming, oil and gas among others
Industry
The people of Orhionmwon LGC are primarily engaged in agricultural activities, with farming being the mainstay of their economy. They cultivate various crops such as yam, cassava, maize, and oil palm. In addition to agriculture, trading and small-scale businesses also contribute to the local economy.
Tourism
The council is located in an area that is blessed with both natural and man-made attractions from the resplendent architectural masterpieces that have been constructed in various locations and new ones springing up on a daily basis. There are world-class hotels and lovely places for relaxation.
Religion
In spite of the observance of various traditional festivals and the performance of traditional rituals, the major religions are Christianity and Islam with the largest number of followers.
